Altruism on the Internet

           A few days ago, surfing the web, I came across an extraordinary story of a young girl. Her name is Paulina and is 24 years old. At the beginning of 2009, diagnosed with a rare cancer that is resistant to chemicals and radiation. In Poland, the cancer that can not be the surgery (no experience). The only chance for Paulina was a very costly operation in Boston. Pauline is now after the operation. All thanks to people who, through for example the Internet, offered her financial assistance. However, financial assistance is still needed on costly treatment. And there is still plenty of people willing to help.
History Paulina moved me to tears. Every day I follow her blog, which describes the course of treatment. And the most moving to me her desire to fight. AMAZING!

This story caused me reflection of altruism on the Internet ...

What is altruism?

        Altruism is selfless concern for the good of others. Altruism usually means any kind of action that is directed at an advantage for someone or something (on, idea) to another, without their own. Is often linked to bearing the costs, both real (financial) and psychological (mainly moral).

        The Internet enables us to personal altruistic behavior towards complete strangers. It gives a chance for us to answer what we have to offer: comfort, recognition or specific words, financial support.

        As you can see, modern technologies are also very humanistic. Sometimes sending a text message to someone saves lives. Or visit the site, which earns through advertising, for a meal for children.

For us it is not yet expensive....

Internet has become the medium through which we can show our humanity, which every day sometimes hard to discern.Many people become anonymous sponsors needy people.
Paulina on the blog was like some kind of online community, a community of people, in which the interaction takes place via the Internet.
